There would have been no thought given to publishing it. It was presumably accepted as a "boys will be boys" moment and something our readers did not really need to know about. That's just the way things were, back in the day. The question everyone asks is how can Carney, after so many chances, continue to be such a dickhead. For what it's worth, here is my theory. Carney had just turned 18 when he made his first grade debut for Canberra in 2004. At an impressionable age, he was indoctrinated into a culture far removed from normal society. I spent four seasons covering the Raiders for the Canberra Times, from 1996 to 1999, and several of those players were still around when Carney broke into the team. And when they were on the drink, it the north face products almost became a competition to see who could be the biggest party animal and who could produce the most idiotic behaviour. I'm sure the Raiders of that era were not unique.
